About Us
On January 5, 1911 10 young men who were students at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN gave birth to a dream. Led by Elder Watson Diggs, the 10 students found the Kappa Alpha Nu Fraternity. Later, under Proclamation from Grand Polemarch Elder Watson Diggs, the name of the fraternity was changed to Kappa Alpha Psi.
The Cocoa-Merritt Island Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was chartered and incorporated in Brevard county on June 15, 1978. We have award over $35,000 in scholarships over a 25 year period. Our chapter has been the benchmark for the Cocoa West Tutorial Program, Project Star, the Zion Orthodox Church, and the NAACP Tutorial program. We support the Habitat for Humanity and the Pan Hellenic Council. Our chapter has logged over 1000 hours in tutoring.
Polemarch's Message
Greetings to our dear Brothers, esteemed members of the Divine Nine, and our friends in the community at large.
It is my distinct privilege to welcome you as the presiding Polemarch of the Cocoa Merit Island (FL)
Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Our chapter, known locally by our moniker as the “Space Coast Nupes”, proudly and boldly represents the achievements of Kappa Alpha Psi throughout Brevard County. Originally chartered in 1978, the chapter’s history is inextricably tied to the historic successes of NASA and Cape Canaveral, as our chapter founders were standout African-American professionals in the Aerospace and Defense Industry specifically recruited to enrich our nation’s space program. Excelling in Engineering, Finance, and decorated Military Service, their unwavering commitment to excellence laid a firm hand in guiding the success of NASA’s Space Exploration efforts and to the recent revitalization of this industry on the Space Coast.
Almost a half century later, our chapter has grown in both vision and scale, but we remain
steadfastly committed to pursuit of achievement in every field of human endeavor.
Our legacy has continued to expand not only through the STEM industries, but also through our dynamic men of character leading by example in Clergy, Corporate Finance, Education, Healthcare, and several other vocations.
As the current Polemarch for our Alumni Chapter, my vision is aligned with that of our 34th Grand
Polemarch, Rueben A. Shelton Il, Esq who led our International Fraternal Brotherhood under
the theme, "Brother to Brother, Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges".
I invite you to learn more about the Cocoa Merritt Island (FL) Alumni Chapter, fellowshipping with us at our various community service projects and social events aimed at enriching professional life on the Space Coast.
I welcome your interest and assistance in breaking down the barriers of unengaged elected representation as the Kappa Men of CMIAC fight to improve lives through our voting registration efforts and through our brothers running active campaigns in 2024 for election to local offices. But most of all, we are delighted to represent the spirit of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. by standing with you, and among you, in an effort to build bridges together for a bigger, better, and brighter future for us all.
On the Space Coast and every coast in between.
